Happy Birthday Hayden

Our fourth nephew turned one today!  I'm sharing a few pics of the festivities and the recipe for his cake.

The little guy had some difficulties at birth, but is quickly catching up!

"Barnyard Bash" was the theme and my sister-in-law Kassandra made and decorated this birthday cake.

Hayden loved his smash cake!

Hayden got so many presents he was overwhelmed with what to do.

Hot Water Chocolate Cake

2 cups white sugar 2 cups all-purpose flour 1/4 cup unsweetened cocoa powder 1 teaspoon baking soda 1 teaspoon baking powder 1 teaspoon salt

1/2 cup butter 1 cup water 1/2 cup buttermilk 2 eggs, beaten 1 teaspoon vanilla extract

1.	Preheat oven to 375 degrees F (190 degrees C). Grease and flour a 9x13 inch pan. Mix together the sugar, flour, cocoa, baking powder, baking soda and salt. Set aside.
2.	In a large saucepan bring butter and water to a boil. Remove from heat. Stir in flour mixture. Pour in buttermilk, eggs and vanilla; mix thoroughly.
3.	Pour cake batter into prepared 9x13 inch baking pan. Bake in preheated oven for 25 minutes or until a toothpick inserted in center comes out clean. Remove cake from oven and frost immediately.

Happy 100th Birthday, Grandma!

Today we are attending an Open House to celebrate my grandma's 100th birthday.  Grandma lives in an assisted living facility and enjoys playing cards at least once a day and sewing quilt blocks on her foot pumped machine.  Her mother lived 102 years, passing just before her 103rd birthday.  Grandma is the oldest of four girls, one sister passed in her 20s, one at 90 and the youngest is still alive at 93.

Happy 2nd Birthday Sprockett!

I am proud to be a pet parent!  I love my petite furbaby.  :) Goodbye puppyhood!

FYI: 98% of the time Sprockett never wants under covers, but she crawled in to this folded comforter at the end of the bottom bunk all on her own, so I just had to take her picture. :)

Happy 10th Anniversary!

We all want to fall in love. Why? Because that experience makes us feel completely alive. Where every sense is heightened, every emotion is magnified, our everyday reality is shattered and we are flying into the heavens. It may only last a moment, and hour, an afternoon. But that doesn't diminish its value. Because we are left with memories that we treasure for the rest of our lives.

Most little girls dream of what their life will be like when they grow older. I knew I wanted to be a teacher, a wife and a mother. Beyond that, I didn't have any expectations. But God did.

Before either set of our parents even knew they were expecting us over 36 years ago, God knew that one day we would come together and be joined as man and wife.

God brought a man, born in Washington and raised in Illinois to Missouri on one specific night under one very specific set of circumstances to meet a woman born and raised completely within eastern Nebraska. Although we didn't meet in the traditional way, at least at the time, I believe that our meeting was designed and inspired by our creator.

According to wordly standards, I may not be rich because of a lack of monetary goods. But I am rich beyond measure because God brought us together. Jason, your attitude and your actions scream Ephesians 5:25, which says, "Husbands, love your wives, just as Christ loved the church and gave himself up for her."

Words cannot express how much you mean to me. The last ten years have had their ups and downs, but they have been great because not only has God been with me, but because He blessed me extravagantly by placing you at my side.

On the day that marks our 10th wedding anniversary, I celebrate where God has brought us thus far and look forward to what is yet to come. May these ten years just be a fraction of the many more years we will be able to enjoy together.

Happy 5th Birthday Handsome!

God blessed us that day in June 2006 when He chose us to be your foster parents. One year later you made the most adorable ring bear I've ever seen. :) The 734 days you called us mommy and daddy are some of the best days of our lives. We miss you so much and hope you have a wonderful 5th birthday Triston!

Happy 16th Birthday Kristine!

Wow...our flower girl is growing up! I babysat off and on for Kristine and her little brother Matthew for 3-4 years. When Jason and I were planning our wedding, it was quite obvious who our ring bear and flower girl would be!
