Indoor Plants

A few years ago I had really bad migraines - sometimes twice per week, some lasting 3-4 days.  Some of the "tricks" I used to reduce my migraines were using natural cleaners and filling our home with house plants.  For more info on houseplants for cleaner air in your home, visit HERE.  Please excuse my dust and the dirty windows as we haven't gotten to all of our Spring Cleaning yet.

This plant is from Jason's grandma's funeral.  His sister has one just like it, but with a pink bow.

Jason has started giving me seasonal plants.  On the left is a shamrock plant and on the right, a poinsettia.

This peace lily is also from Jason's grandma's funeral and has probably been the hardest one to keep alive.  Now hat Spring has arrived, I need to move it someplace it doesn't get as much sun as it loves the shade.

This arrangement is also from Jason's Grandma's funeral and has slowly grown over the past 21 months.

This spider plant was purchased about four years ago.  I really need to transplant some of the shoots!  To the far left is the snake plant (aka mother-in-law's tongue) I tried to revive.  I guess I couldn't tame my mother-in-law's tongue! (((Carolyn))) 

This angel plant was bought at the same time as the spider plant above.  It is so big and I don't know what to do with it!

This little guy sits in my kitchen window.  I love succulents and plan to plant a whole container full of them!

I used to really be bad at watering my plants until my parents bought me a water gauge (I couldn't find one).  The gauge eventually broke, but by then I had figured out when and how much to water my plants which I do each Sunday night before bed.  In the next month or so I will remove the smaller plants from their pots and give them fertilizer and more soil.  All of our plants either sit in the windowsill or close by.  Our shades are rarely ever closed.  I think the sunlight is the variable that has kept the plants surviving, if not thriving!

Yellow and Gray/Silver Bedrooms

I realized tonight after viewing another yellow and gray bedroom, that I never posted pictures here of ours.  For some reason I just posted them on Facebook, but since I closed my account, I decided to post them here belatedly.  Please excuse the dust!

Our room was painted lavendar when we moved in.  It was ok, so we've left it that way for the past seven years.  It is similar to periwinkle, one of our wedding colors, along with yellow and silver. 

Straight ahead in our room is our dresser with wedding memorabilia and craft's I've made.  Yes, I have a thing for flowers, silk or otherwise! The only picture I have of the white twin sheets turned drapery panels is in the reflection of this mirror.

Here's the prints I ordered on etsy for our anniversary last year.

The quilt is from Dwell Studio.  My mom made the pillows from birdy/owl fabric I choose.  Our lamps look puny, but are the right height for reading in bed.

I made the Chevron canvas and monogrammed candles.

I made the wall art and the doily was made by my mom or grandma.  It was evidently warm out when I took these photos as evidenced by this lovely fan. :)  You can't see the container that holds the books very well, but it is part of my white pottery collection.

This felt rosette wreath I made hangs between my bedside table and the closet.

It's nothing too fancy, but we like it!

More Copy Cat Crafts

After begging my parents to come with my mom to visit sometime soon, I began looking through my Crafty board on Pinterest to gather the materials for "several" things I need their help to complete. :)  I decided that there were a few things I could get started on right away.

After falling in love with THIS mantle, by a woman who shares my July 7th birthday :), I decided to make my own version of the sun canvas.  I have yet to trim the rays...

Inspired by the tray above, we had planned to finish ours today, but couldn't find acrylic water.

 I have a few other crafts on my list to complete next week.

Canvas Craft

All through the winter I added pins to my Pinterest Boards and knew that someday I'd get to them.  The recipes were easy to make quickly because we have to eat, but the crafts...

Finally Memorial Day weekend came around and I had five whole days off of work and no homework, no organizing and no deep cleaning to do.  So, I brought out a canvas, painted it pool blue, picked five pretty scrapbook papers, and got started crafting using Crystal's wall art as inspiration.

Now to make some canvases for other seasons ...

Red and White Fabric Wreath

Our front door had been blank for a month or two - gasp! - because I didn't have time to make something with all the end of the semester busyness.  Finally May came and I was able to dig into my file of inspiration and pulled out this creation from Cheryl at That's What {Che} Said.  I'm not sure I've mentioned it, but almost all photos of Jason on our blog show what a die hard St. Louis Cardinals fan he is.  So I decided to make a wreath for the front door to honor this love.  The fact that the colors also work for the Nebraska Cornhuskers was an added bonus. :)

After several sessions of cutting out 4" blocks with pinking shears, I completed the wreath while watching the much awaited (and very disappointing) Episode 1, Season 2 of Sherlock on PBS. Then I went to hang it on the 3M Command Strip and busted the hanger.  So after a trip to Wal-mart the next week, here it is on our front door:

The wreath turned out so much better than the show did!

Are You Feelin' the Love? :)

I've been working on setting out my decorations for Valentine's Day.  I still need to add a ribbon here or there, but until I make something new, I think I am good to go.  If you want to see what the decorations looked like last year, you can check it out here.  There are three items in frames I'm still looking for. :)

My first project this year took inspiration from Piecefully Home boa wreath.  I used a small wreath form and one boa to hang on the tin tile mirror in the kitchen ...

Due to it's size, it is hard to see the center, but it still makes me smile. :) 

and my other project so far were these yarn hearts using Wolly Wotnots as an example...

I haven't lost my perfectionistic tendencies yet as these hearts should

be more puffy, but I couldn't let go of the yarn laying flat!

I also purchased two new plates during a stop at Home Goods ...

New white scalloped edge plate overlayed with the letters I made last year resembling those from the City of Brotherly Love.  Plus a sneak peek of the table I bought to refinish (after I decide upon a color) and the new curtains we got (that need ironed).

Isn't this owl fabric adorable? I bought 1/2 a yard at JoAnn Fabrics and used some for this frame and have plenty left to make canine kerchiefs for camera shy Sport and Sprockett as well as their cousin Shyloh, the white German Shepard (not pictured).

Back to the decor ...

I was too lazy to put the X and O I made last year on the top of the cupboards,

but looking at this photo, they kind of blend in...hmmmm.

The top of the entertainment center needs a little pink or something, don't 'ya think?

The wall art is covered with the same fabric and banner from last year.
(Jason hung it a bit low, but it's all good. :)

As a side note...

I made a quick stop at Target yesterday and besides adorable pencils for my therapy room, I picked up these notecards for $1 (8 ct.) and set of two tea towels for $2.50.
